Format
Each race begins promptly at 6:30 pm. All skiers must be registered before the start. If you are not able to register by 6:15, you will be responsible for your own timing.
Most races will be mass start, but there will be some time trials.
Skiers will self-seed. This means that if you expect to ski very fast, move to the beginning of the starting group. If you expect to ski very slow, move to the back of the starting group.
As you cross the finish line, you will be handed a number, indicating your finishing place. Take that number to the clipboard and LEGIBLY write your name next to your number. A timer will correlate your number to your finishing time and results will be submitted to the Duluth Cross Country Ski Club and SkinnySki websites within 24 hours.
POINTS for the DXC Cup Championship
Women and Men skiing the timed event will be awarded points, which are tracked for the entire series. The first female and first male finisher each receive 5 points The second female and male finishers each receive 4.9 points, the third female and male finishers each receive 4.8 points, and so on. At the end of the season, the highest female and male points earners will hold the title of DXC Cup Champion.
COST
Free to DXC members. For non-members, there is $5 per week charge. Please support the host trails and purchase season or day-passes and/or the Great Minnesota Ski Pass.
FAQ
Q. Are these races Classic or Skate?
A. Either is great.
Q. How long will it take me to finish?
A. The fastest skiers are usually done in about 10 minutes. Average skiers will finish in the 15-20 minute range and the slow-but-steady skiers usually finish under 30 minutes.
Q. Are other people allowed on the trails during races?
A. Yes! Please be respectful of non-participants.
Q. How do I pass someone who is going slower than me?
A. Clearly yell out “TRACK!” Except in cases of safety, it is the slower skier’s responsibility to move out of the way of the faster skier.
Q. What if I don’t want to race?
A. Plan to join in the social skiing that takes place right after the race each week.
