Wednesday Night Ski Series Recap
And that’s all she wrote. The fat lady has sung. This beautiful, sunny weather means that, barring substantial new snow, the 2007-2008 Wednesday Night Ski Series is over.
We had a great season, considering almost all our snow was from December.
We skied 14 races, in temperatures from -4F to 28F. We skied with adults, kids and dogs at Lester Park, Snowflake and Spirit Mt., along with one (cold!) race at Marshall School.
79 people came out to ski the races this winter, with an average of about 15 skiers per week.
In the race for the Duluth Cup, there were 70 possible points. On the men’s side, Joe Gerard, who skied every race, finished with 64.3 points. On the women’s side, Jena Ogston finished in the lead with 55 points, although it should be noted that she was the first female finisher in every race of the series this year. Congratulations, Joe and Jena!
A huge thanks goes out to our volunteers! This series could not have happened without their help. Thanks to Shane Olson, Shanie Hahn, Anne Flueckiger, Mike Haag, Tone Coughlin, Morris Levy, Matt Ryan and Brian Bich. Please thank these folks the next time you see them.
Next year’s Wednesday Night Ski Series is under discussion. At the moment, it looks like Nikolai will take over the Wednesday Night series, and there may also be a Saturday morning series which rotates once through each trails of Duluth. Stay tuned to the website for details.
Pictures from the series are posted at Flickr - follow this LINK.
Thanks, everyone - see you out on the trails!

To paraphrase, a HUGE THANKS goes out to Bryan French! This series could not have happened without his dedication and organization. Please thank him the next time you see him!

I second that HUGE THANKS to Bryan French, but also Shane Olson, Shanie Hahn. I think that they were there every week timing and photographing!

Bryan, you rule! Thanks to you and everyone for putting on such a fun series. Plus, I didn’t expect to recieve a new Chevy truck for winning the series, so thanks for that, too!

I was holding out for a Toyota, so I’m glad I didn’t ski any faster.

Is it true that no vehicle has been given away yet?! The prize committee must be asleep. I have a 1993 Ford Arostar van that could be given away for FREE! You can even see snow through the floor boards during the winter months. (I also need more space in my garage.) Check it out!
