Minutes from Dec. 07 Board Meeting
Duluth Cross Country Ski Club
12/11/07 Board Meeting
Convened at 6:30
Present: Anne Flueckiger, Nikolai Anikin, Bonnie Kask, Robin Downs, Patti Harvieux, Bryan French (minutes).
Excused: Morris Levy
Visitor from KidSki: Pete Langr
KidSki (BF)
- Pete Langr, from the KidSki board, approached DXC about KidSki possibly becoming part of DXC. KidSki is currently a nebulous organization that would benefit from becoming an entity with more secure legal standing, whether that be a corporation, a separate non-profit, or part of another non-profit such as DXC.
- Would KidSki continue to have separate bank accounts and insurance?
- What kind of oversight (financial and/or programmatic) would DXC have?
- Understand that KidSki is looking to ensure its continued viability. Likewise, DXC wants to ensure that by bringing KidSki on, that it would be taking on a willing partner, and not necessarily just an entity looking for an insurance vehicle.
- Board concurs that KidSki exemplifies the mission of DXC (education) and that it makes sense to bring them into the club. Also, we discussed keeping the name “Snowflake KidSki” as long as the program remains at Snowflake.
- AF mentioned that the Spirit Mt. kid ski program (Nordic Spirit Youth Ski League) has also been invited to consider joining DXC.
- Motion (AF/RD) to approve KidSki becoming part of DXC. Approved, pending agreement of terms which AF will draft, send to board members for comment, and send to Pete by next Tuesday, December 18.
Super Tour (NA)- Reminder that Super Tour is 1/23/08
- NA working on a poster
- Dave Johnson is still raising money
- Wednesday Night Ski Race that week will ski on the Marshall Trails. That race will start at 7pm. Fee will be $10, which includes race fee, trail access and a meal (no DXC discount). The WNS race distance will be 4.2K (3 loops)
Nordic Spirit (PH)- Reminder that race date is 1/27/08
- The December Registration just got posted on SkinnySki - expect a website bump from that
20-25 entries from last year have been comped for this year. Registrations for this year have already started
- Advertisements are in Birkie’s Birch Scroll, in Silent Sports and other places
- High Schoolers can register for $15
- Brian Bich has been working on grooming issues with the city. The connector looks better than ever
- Posters are getting posted
Membership (PH)
- Currently 122 households, and many memberships are in the pipe
- Google Analytics shows ALL the web stats - very cool. We are getting big hits on big snow days and on days when club emails go out
Technique Tuesdays (AF)
- Starts tonight
- Great lineup of coaches
- Let’s add coaching resources to the website
Wednesday Night Ski Race and Tour (BF)
- This series started last week, thanks to the early snow
- Would prefer to keep it in Duluth, despite glowing reviews of Cloquet’s Pine Valley ski trail system
Banff (AF)
- Still haven’t received bill from Banff, so we don’t know the final total yet
- BF has some bills he will get to treasurer for payment (AVR and Omni)
- Quick discussion about next year’s venue (stay at Omni or grow?).
Financial (AF)
- Request from BF - would like more financial info
- could treasurer email a financial report to the board prior to board meetings?
Other (AF)
- Been working with Spirit Mt., City, Snowflake and other entities clarifying roles and relationships
- Wrote Letter to the Editor of DNT thanking groomers and encouraging skiers to visit website
- Will be highlighting high school and college teams and athletes with articles from them on the DXC website. AF will be following up on this.
