Wednesday Night Ski Race and Tour
The Duluth XC Ski Club is hosting its first weekly Wednesday Night Ski Race and Tour of the 2007-2008 season at Lester Park. Some people come to race against friends; some people come to race against themselves. Some people come just for the fun. Whatever the reason, come on out and enjoy the GREAT snow and good company.
Venue for 12/5/07
Lester Park at the Seven Bridges Road entry.
Conditions
Great!
Distance
4 kilometers.
Format
Mass start. Classic or Skate.
Registration
Between 6:00pm and 6:20pm.
Start
6:30pm sharp.
Course
We will ski the lighted loop, which starts at the Seven Bridges Road parking lot, goes down a short decline, then a quick u-turn to the left and up past ‘B’, past ‘C’, skip the ‘D’ side loop, and turn back (left) at ‘F.’ No other side loops on the way back. Once around. Cones will be placed around the course to help direct traffic.
Cost
Free for DXC members, $5 for others. Great Minnesota Ski Pass required to ski at Lester Park.
How long will it take?
Super-fast elite skiers will be done in 10 to 15 minutes. Fast and fit skiers will be done in 15-20 minutes. Mere mortals will be done in 20-30 minutes. Rank beginners will be done in 30-40 minutes. Small children and pets will take longer than 40 minutes.
Points?
We assign points, based on order of finish, at every Wednesday Night Race. Men and Women earn points separately. 1st person across the line earns 5 points. 2nd person earns 4.9 points, etc. At the end of the season, the person with the most points wins the DXC cup. As you can see, being fast is helpful, but showing up consistently can be an ace in the hole. If you are Ski Touring, please sign up - our sponsors love to know how popular DXC is! All Ski Tourers will earn .1 point less than the last racer.
Other Notes
Not all the lights are on at Lester, as of Tuesday night. I classic skied to ‘H’ and back without a headlamp and didn’t have any problems, but a headlamp does help. I will bring a few extras, just in case. Snow coverage is good but soft.
WANTED
One or two timing assistants and a photographer. If you can help, please drop a line to info@duluthxc.com.
Thanks!
See you there!
